David Wendell Thoms
CEO of AIFs
Story
I have always been driven by two main characteristics, curiosity and the desire to collaborate with outstanding people. From an educational perspective, my curiosity has led me to build a deep knowledge in several areas, such as studying law at Stockholm University, finance at Harvard University and Economics at Lund university. The people I got to know at these institutions fueled my curiosity further, and also created a desire to create value outside the world of academia.
From a professional perspective, I spent more than half a decade working with one of the largest law firms in the Nordic region, mainly focused on distressed companies and turnaround projects. Seeing the entrepreneurial work delivered by the firm’s clients led me to a career pivot, in which I took on several roles within growth and business development. As part of the executive team of several fast-growing companies, with exceptional colleagues, I have been part of both the thrilling Daniel Wellington and Loop Earplug journey. My legal background and hands- on experience of building companies, combined with a deep financial interest, led me into the world of operational investments. Apart from being an active angel investor I have held roles such as CEO of a publicly traded investment company. In addition to being part of some fantastic corporate journeys, these efforts that has led to recognitions that I am very proud and humble of, such the Nordic Angels nomination as Best in Class Turnaround and listing as one of the most influential Swedish early-stage investors by news site Breakit.
In the byWiT team, I have found a place where my two driving characteristics are both met, but also shared by all my colleagues.
